Wall Quilt Virtual Raffle Fundraiser

Desert Valley Hospice Society (DVHS) is hosting a Wall Quilt Raffle fundraiser to support the programs and services we offer to the community. Online raffle ticket sales are April 6th –May 30th.
The draw and announcement will be on the Brock Jackson Show on EZ Rock Radio Osoyoos at 9am on May 31st. The winner will be notified by phone and by email.
"Into The Light" wall quilt was designed, created, and donated to Desert Valley Hospice Society by South Okanagan artists Kathie Kirby, Bev Penny, Gisela Carroll, and Leslie Forbes, students of Canadian award-winning Quilter/Fibre Artist, Karen Thatcher.
Raffle Tickets are $25 each or 5 for $100

Only 1,000 tickets available.

Karen Thatcher (1957-2020) was a Canadian Master Quilter/Fibre Artist, former paramedic, traumatic brain injury survivor, and lung cancer patient from Rossland, BC. She created beautiful art quilts portraying nature and donated these pieces to various organizations. Her first quilt won second place across Canada in 2014. Karen taught friends her special techniques. This is her legacy.

"Into The Light" was created in an improvisational process from a range of fabrics in an abstract composition. Many randomly cut small fabrics were fused to create an impressionistic vision of a forest, with trees created from painted cheesecloth adding texture to the design. This multi-layer art-work was stitched together and faced to create a large vertical artwork. Measures 40" X 60".

THE QUILTERS - Gisela Carroll started her quilting journey in 1992 with a simple sampler quilt. After completing many traditional quilts, her path has led her to fibre art. Her work often reflects the beauty of nature and she finds inspiration for her designs from her photographs. Her quilting is always a journey, while learning and incorporating new techniques and improving old ones. - Leslie Forbes is an art quilter/fibre artist living and working in Osoyoos BC. She is passionate about architecture and nature which are the focus of her work. Leslie has won many awards both nationally and internationally in juried shows. It is the process which captures her attention as she continues to explore multiple ways of expressing her subject matter to realize her vision. - Kathie Kirby lives in Oliver and has taught quilting classes for many years. She has extended her love of fibres into art, which is a never-ending learning experience. - Bev Penny is a quilter and fibre artist who enjoys learning, playing, exploring, and seeing a piece evolve from a vision to reality. Inspiration comes through varied avenues of learning such as the class with Karen Thatcher. |
