dealing with loss seminar, a 10-week journey

Desert Valley is a virtual 10-Week Journey - Dealing with Loss.
The seminar will be led by Desert Valley Grief Support Group Facilitator Volunteers. This grief group includes both sharing and support, as well as grief education.
Each session will consist of:
· A check-in in which each participant will have a chance to speak to where they are at in their grief that day;
· A presentation on a topic intended to support you in your grief;
· A discussion of the topic and other predominant themes of the day.
Session One – Open to the Presence of Your Loss: Become aware of your losses in your life and begin to understand the journey of grief and healing. Learn the differences between grief and mourning.
Session Two – Dispel the Misconceptions About Grief:
Explore the 10 most common misconceptions and start to embrace realistic expectations for grief and mourning.
Session Three – Embrace the Uniqueness of Your Grief: This session invites you to explore some of the unique reasons your grief is what it is – the “whys.” You will construct your own personal Loss History Graph.
Session Four – Explore Your Feelings of Loss: Discover your many and varied feelings of loss. What does grief feel like for you? Understand you are not alone and explore guidelines for self-care.
Session Five – Recognize You Are Not Crazy: An essential session to Identify common thoughts and feelings that cause mourners
to feel like they are going crazy. We will explore physical symptoms , dreams and mystical experiences. Learn trail markers that
reassure you that you are normal.
Session Six – Understand the Six Needs of Mourning: This session looks at the similarities experienced by many in the grief journey, while acknowledging your individual expression through this path.
Session Seven – Nurture Yourself : Learning the importance of being compassionate and exploring ways to care for yourself through this process will assist you in finding meaning for continued living.
Session Eight – Reach out for Help: In this session you will become aware of the characteristics of empathic helpers, identify factors which may complicate the grieving process and explore extended options for grieving assistance. Being aware of these potential difficulties will enable you to cope with them and move forward.
Session Nine - Seek Reconciliation, Not Resolution: Here you enhance the grieving process and open the door to becoming
re-involved in the activities of living, rediscover meaning in your life and gain renewed energy and enthusiasm.
Session Ten - Appreciate your Transformation: Here you take the time to become aware and recognize how you have grown
through the process of grief.
